The SEN contained an article in the Thursday, November 11, 1999 edition that outlined a new housing development proposed for the the "old" Vincent's Potato Chip Plant on Highland Avenue. According to the report, Corcoran Companies, a housing developer, is considering the site for multiple housing, presumably rental. The site is not zoned for housing, and the article indicated that variances have to be obtained from the ZBA (Zoning Board of Appeals).
It should be noted that under State Statutes, use variances cannot be legally granted by the ZBA unless they are related to hardship. A variance can only be granted for hardship related to site configuration, topography or size.
